Airlie Beach

17th to 22nd Aug - Airlie Beach Yacht Club

We have a swing mooring through the Yacht Club, $50 for the week, not bad when the marinas around here are charging $105.00 per night.

We have paid for the week, won't stay here the whole time, we'll do day trips, just nice to have a home base for awhile.

Cid Harbour - Sawmill Bay

15th August

Last day at Cid before we head out. We went to the beach to change the oil on the dinghy motor, I'm to be the apprentice for the job, I took my Kindle with me in the hope to finish the last 4 pages in the book I'm reading. 5 mins later Zoe, Ric, Harry & Ollie show up, no more reading but I now don't have to help Martin, Ric is now doing that. 5 Mins later Noel & David turn up. Now Martin has 2 guys helping and I get some female company. An hour later we decided we need drinks and food. Sundowners has now been organized, I love this life.

Cid Harbour - Sawmill Bay

13th Aug

We left Goldsmith Island - Stingray Bay at 4am and moved to the other side to Roylen Bay. We arrived about 5.30am and went back to bed, I did get back to sleep but Martin had trouble getting to sleep, as we had side-on swell and this causes the boat to rock side to side, it's very rolly. Martin brought me a cup of tea about 7.30 and told me as soon as I was finished we are leaving, yes he was getting fed-up with the constant rocking.

With the wind up to 20knots gusting to 25 knots, the sea had swell up from 0.5 to 1 metre high with a swell period of 4 second.

Since this is the first time I have add our sea condition and using the term 'Swell Period' I'll explain it for you. The swell period is a measurement of time between successive swell in seconds or anther way to explain it, Swell Period is the frequency of the swell crest to the next swell crest. If neither one of this explanation explained it for you, then you will have to Google it yourself.

For us (OK me, as I'm the one who gets seasick) the Swell conditions are what we look at. Swell Height, Swell Direction, and Swell Period. The photo below is the sea conditions I talked about before. This was between 8am to 11.30.

We stoped for a couple of hour for lunch at Shaw Island- anchored at Burning Point.
When we set off again the weather conditions were wind 10 knots, swell 0.1 to 0.5 meters and the swell period more like 20seconds which made the rest of the day sail perfect.

We anchored at Cid Harbour 3.30pm, with friends coming to EverRest for sundowners, nice way to finish the day.

Goldsmith Island

12 Aug.
The wind is currently 20 knots from the North(ish) and around 4am it will change to South(ish).  It will be an early start.

On the trip to Goldsmith Island we saw whales in the distance, I did manage to take some photos of them. You can just see the splash in the distance in the photo.
This afternoon I was sitting reading with a glass of wine when I had a loud burst a air, I looked up and there heading for our boat was 2 whales, this time I took a better photo of them.

Brampton & Carlisle Island

11th August

Had lunch out the front while we were sailing from Mackay because there was hardly any wind.  Martin went for a quick swim after we anchored and then we had a short dinghy ride to check out the coral. So much warmer than Canberra.

Port Newry Island

1st to 3rd August

Now this is a nice island. We did the walk which takes you over the to the other side island, it has an old resort on the island. The old bar area is still there with table and chairs, so you have a place to sit and eat when sundowners are on. Also there is a large patch of green grass to throw a frisbee or kick a ball, or you could also make a 2 hole golf course if you had a golf club and balls, Martin didn't but now he wants them. I have to say this is my favourite island so far.

Mackay Harbour

24th to 31st July

Staying at the marina for a while, more bad weather due, not that you could tell from our sail in to the marina, very nice. Caught up with washing, cleaning and sorting photos on my computer.

While we were there this thick fog came in and within an hour it was gone.
