View from our boat

Very helpful Harbourmaster, brought out his book of the Main river and told us some of his favourite places to stay at.

Heading into Kitzingen

Entry into Kitzingen Old Cemetery when the grave of Dracula is.

Vlad Dracula grave

A local legend is that the golden ball atop the crooked tower contains the heart of Vlad Dracula of Romania. The golden ball leans directly towards the cemetery and his grave.

I liked the mural on the wall behind the garden

Walking back across the bridge and noticed the marina in the distance.

Zoomed in to see our boat

There is an island under the bridge called Mondsee with an outdoor pool, play grounds scatted around the grounds

Wipfeld

Walk around town

At the bus stop,
Nearest supermarket is 8 kms away and the bus leaves the town at 6:30 am Monday, Wednesday and Friday not sure when it will bring you back.

Lovely town, we were told it was a great place and it is, if you have a bike or your cupboards are stocked, which ours were not, we had enough for 2 breakfasts and one dinner.

We found out the day we arrived, the restaurant and pub will be close tomorrow but there is a bakery that might sell fruit and vegetables. Went to the bakery in the morning, hoping the stock up with fresh produce with no luck, selling only bread, go figure.

We will be leaving after breakfast.

Marina, Harbor Master couldn't speak much English, his wife translated for us.
The showers where not bad, they also have a private outdoor shower for though hot days or cold up to you and had plenty of room at the docks to moor, each boat getting their own dock.

Thursday 23 June 2022

Bischberg - Thursday 23 June to 28th June 22 (5 nights)

We had a look at the moorings close to Bamberg, hoping there will be a spot only to discover there where 2 spots but we were not going to fit.

The docks are small, you each get a dock and a walkway to land, so they are separate.

Onto the marina in Bischberg
  • Electricity is included in the price, Non drinking water but Charly said they have been drinking it for the last 50 years, if you are willing to try, the taps are a long way off from the docks, so will need an adaptor to connect your hose to the hoses already there.
  • Bus into Bamberg, long and our drivers didn't put the aircon on. Better than not being able to go a all.
  • Supermarket close, walking distance from the marina, includes an Action, Kaufland, and Baumarkt (it's a hardware store) small shopping centre and a very large shoe store and a couple of restaurants

In the background behind the trees is the shower block, 2 showers with private dressing area. They face the afternoon sun, so get stuffy once your are out of the shower.
and yes there is another Greenline in the marina, had drinks with the owner, they where going in the opposite direction so we swapped information.

Invited to the marina's Summer Festival, all the members of the club were very welcoming
Harbour master Charly and his wife Erika behind Martin and I (not sure of the name of the lady in the back) are wonderful people very helpful, Charly, acted as postman as well, letting us get parcels delivered to the marina.
They both love to played Rummikub, be warned, Erika is very good at it.

The band, they may be old but they where pretty good and yes, the Ouzo was exceptional.

Time for a fire not sure why (see screen shot below, it was reaching 13 at 5:30am), but it has a nice feel to it.

Now that is a shot glass, one you can eat.

Walk around town
Forchheim is known as the Royal City, it's first mentioned in 805. Owing to Forchheim's fortifications, it got through the Thirty Years War without being overrun even once. Several times from 1632 to 1634 the Swedes tried, this was the time the townsfolks earned the nickname wall shitters. It came from their practice of defecating over the city walls during a siege, to demonstrate to the Swedes that there was still enough to eat in the city, and that their siege was ineffective and pointless.
