Another night in Hanau

Pretty tough here in Hanau. About 9.30pm at the end of July and we're still in shorts and t-shirt

Speed limits

I think this means that if I'm in the only tank crossing the bridge I can do 70kmh ????

Hanau - arrived 21st July to 1st August 2022 - Finished

The whole marina is out in the open, we were told not to stay here, but to be honest we didn't found it that bad. Yes when a sport boat goes through, there is some slosh but nothing as bad as we have had.

The container at the back right of this photo is the WC and Showers. There are 2 showers, free hot water with your own change room.
View from the back of our deck, you can see the other side of the river, in the middle of the photo, is the no wash marker, most of the marina is on the wrong side of the marker.
No laundry, so time to do it the hard way.

The bus and train stations are a 12 minute walk away, but once you're there you have a choose of shops to go to and a couple of Laundromats. Market every Wednesday and Saturday morning, Martin was kind enough to take me both days, at 2:00pm, as they were packing up.

Statue of Tischlein deck dich, a fairy tale by the Brothers Gimm, about a shoemaker, his 3 sons and a goat published 1812.

Morning walk but when leaving the marina we turning right.

Fuel and Average speed update

Ok. So previously I had this idea of trying to average 10 kmh. Definitely gone by the way side.

We're now well and truly in the Main River with a tail wind and enjoying that. I didn't keep good records earlier and I'm wishing now that I did, more for other peoples benefit than mine.

Anyway, here's the short story. We're doing a lot more with electric only and that's definitely going to pay off at the bowser. This season we have done less than 70 engine hours in total for more than 800km of river travel and 40kms in the Mediterranean.

The average fuel consumption in the Danube (Donau) River and the Main-Donau-Kanal was 3.5 km per litre.

In the Main River, so far we have averaged 12.2 km per litre.

The Donau River (that  we have been on) runs from 1937km in Vienna in Austria up to Kelheim in Germany at 2411km. Then the Main-Donau-Kanal runs from Kelheim at 171km to zero at Bamberg.. Then the Main River starts at Bamberg at 384km and goes to zero at Mainz where it meets the Rhine. If it sounds confusing, let me know and I'll try and explain it better.

Now we're in the Main River we have about a 2 to 3 kmh tail wind (current going with us) and this means I can use electric to go at about 5kmh and the current does the rest. We can easily do 30km in the day and arrive with about 50% battery. If we want to have breakfast on the run and do cooking with the new electric induction cooktop, I might turn on the diesel engine and run for the half hour or so while Belinda is cooking. Pretty much, those days where we used about 2 litres of diesel are those days.

To achieve this sort of fuel consumption we're only doing about 6 -7 kmh and by the time you put the time waiting for or going thru the locks we end up only averaging 5kmh for the day. You know what, I'm quite ok with that :-)

Miltenberg

On the way to our next stop

Waiting for the lock to open, a family of swans showed up.

Freudenberg, looks like a lovely village, it's a shame there is nowhere for us to stop.

Made it to Yacht club Miltenberg e.V., and again the guest berths are on the outside.

Club area also where the Toilets and showers are, oh and don't forget 50cents for the hot water to the shower.

The protected area of the marina, not big enough for us anyway.
The facilities are clean and the people are nice.

Wertheim am Main

You see these "Wertheimer Optimist" all around town. behind this one you will see the marina and our boat we are tethered to another boat, there is only room for 2 boats on the guest berth, from there they allow two more boats to raft up.

View from my seat enjoying a "Safe arrival drink"
The marina has 2 showers with large private dressing areas. Electricity included in the price of the marina berth, not sure of water, didn't want to disturb the people on the boat we were tied up too.
Supermarkets and centre of town walking distance, as well as the Burg Wertheim (castle)

Three meter high "Wertheim Optimist" in the old town, next to the Blaues Haus (Blue House) from 1593, the house not the gnome.

Wertheim Castle
Built in the 12th century, the castle was steadily developed and enlarged until into the 17th century. It was partially destroyed by a powder explosion in1619 and heavily bombarded during the Thirty Years' War.

Lots of stairs, always stairs

View of Wertheim from the top of the castle

Walk through town

Leaving Wertheim the following morning, with the castle on the hill and the entry into the marina on the right around the wall.

Camping Park Wertheim - Bettingen

The docks are short, so to make room for longer boats they have added some pile moorings. You can just see the bow of our boat in this photo.

Photos of the marina facilities: one the left is the club house, has 3 bikes for guests to use and a badminton table. The photo on the right is shower and toilet blocks, at the end on the block on the left, we found a surprise, a washing machine, no dryer though but beggars can't be choosers, did a load and hung it around the boat to dry, 50 cents per 30 minutes on the wash cycle.

Walk to the closest village, Bettingen

No supermarket, but they have a bakery that has a small section with essentials and a café with sandwiches and coffee

Came across this tiny house
Sliding glass door
Went for a closer look
