Ecluse no.7 Rechicourt-le-Chateau - 8th June to 9th June

Finally found same Stakes (Piquets) at the last stop at Lagarde Port, one of the ports where they hire boats out, purchased 3 second hand ones for 8 Euros each and purchased two large round fenders to protect the bow in the locks. With the stakes we can now stop at the side of the canals., which we did today.

Had a little visitor fly into our boat.

The reason we needed the large round fenders, We were up the front in Ecluse No 14 de Xures when a charter boat followed us in and needed more space. We changed our line to move forwards to make room which meant our lines where not in the best position, we had one bollard for the 2 lines. Learnt a lesson though, if I'm as far forward as I feel safe, I'm not moving for a charter, they can reverse out and get the next lock.

The old railway station

On the 4th June we rode our bikes to Luneville to see the Chateau De Luneville, 8 kilometers away with hills to ride up and down. We did this with the intention to have lunch at a restaurant while we were in town. Didn't work out that way, Sunday the restaurants were closed, we found a bar opened that didn't sell food, but you were able to buy food at the Boulangerie next door and eat at their tables with their drinks.

The Chateau wasn't much of a Castle either. Looked great from outside, inside was more like a museum, not the usually were they have rooms made up like they would have been used.

View of the Chateau from the Bar.

Luneville's Church

The garden looking from the Chateau

There was some sort of fair, with wooden games to try and this merry go round, a beekeeper explaining how honey is made, that sort of thing.

Varangeville - Saint Nicolas de Port - 2nd May to 3rd May 2023

This is a stop on the side, does have bollards for easier mooring. No facilities.

Does have a supermarket and a Musee Fracais de la Brasserie, a French museum of Brewery.

As we were walking back from Saint Nicolas to the boat in Varangeville, I turned around and saw the church we had walked to. You can see it in the back with it's two towers.
