Nuremberg (Nürnberg) - 14th June to 21st June 2022

This marker marks the top of the hill, call Continental Divide Monument, near Hilpoltstein.
North of this point the water runs north to the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
South of this point the water runs south to the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea, the way we have just came from.

We have finished going up hill, we are now going down hill.

Heading to our first lock going down, the Schleuse Hilpoltstein (Main-Donau-Kanal)

Arrive at Nuremberg 1. MYC at 5:15pm

Be warned this next bit is me letting off steam:

The Guest dock was full, 2 lovey people show us another place to tie up. One showed us around, told us the code for the gate and showers and showed us the book to sign but told us we could do it tomorrow and gave us the envelope to fill in and place the money into when we leave.

In the evening, a gentleman knocked on the boat, telling us he is the Harbour master and talking in German very fast, we explained we could only understand English, he stormed off. He came back another 2 times, again telling us he is the Harbour master, on the third go, we finally got him to slow down, he wanted us to sign the book tonight. I found him so abrupt in his approach to visitors to his marina that I wasn't going to stay the week we planned. After a wine we decided we will at least stay for a couple of days, having a washing machine and dryer and supermarket close by helped the decision. Everybody else at the marine is very nice.

The following night we were invited to pizza with Armin and Doreen and Elke and Eric from the marina.

We don't have any photos but on the Friday we took a trip up the canal with Armin and Doreen and dog Nikki to go to a camping store that had a dock and was a very short walk from the canal. Sounds great doesn't it. Unfortunately we hadn't let the harbour master know that we were going and we hadn't already paid (this is normal practice) and then apparently there was a great deal of panic thinking that we had done a runner. Anyway, yes we did go back, yes we did stay a few more days and yes we did pay. :-)

Thursday 16th June, after washing, cleaning and grocery shopping yesterday time to relax and see Nürnberg.

After catching the bus into town, arriving at Nuremberg Central Station
at 12:30 we walked to the castle.

Saturday 18th June 2022

We have been invited to the Clubs internal club championship

Map of the course, Martin and I were both invited to participate, we both declined.

Some of the boats that entered

Then the interruptions
The two men on the side of the boat are painting the boat.

Now we need to move the makers back in position, as the commercial ships wake moves them closer to land.

BBQ lunch

Sunday the 19th June 2022, we are finally changing the Gas cooktop with an electric induction cooktop.

Cutting the hole bigger, no going back now

New Cooktop in, so new and shiny you can't see it.

First meal cooked on the cooktop, Salmon, Sweet Potatoes Chips and Sauté Garlic Beans
----------------------------
20th June 2022 time to see thImperial Castle of Nuremberg everyone is telling us about.

The Imperial Castle was first mentioned in a document as a royal property in 1050, use by the Holy Roman Empire, stopping place for rulers on their journeys through the realm, and court assemblies and Imperial Diets were held here. It helps when you can walk around with an audio in English

Double Chapel, build around 1200. Identical ground plan, the upper chapel for the Head of State and the household in the lower.

View from the top of the Sinwell Tower

The moat now is a garden everyone can enjoy.

I really enjoyed learning about the Castles and Germany's history and have lunch in the Café Restaurant on the grounds

Berching

View of the club house from our berth, no drinking water at the berth, should have topped up before we left Beilngries.
This photo is the view facing the Canal, you can see our lines on the dock, the dock is a little too short but you get to know your boat and learn the best way around it.

There was a nice surprise, this marina has a washing machine and dryer combo, 3,50 euro each load, took the opportunity to do the sheets, just as well we arrived just before lunch, had time to wash and dry the sheets then remake the bed before nightfall.
Walk into town, for dinner and look around now we have clean sheets.
Berching has a fully preserved town wall which rings the oldest part of the town and 13 towers and 4 ancient gates, one of the towers has been converted into a 6-story apartment. The first settlement was registered in 883, so it's more than 1100 years old.

One of the ancient gates

This photo is taken from inside the wall, you can see in the photo the top of the walk is still partially accessible.

Walking the wall, the following 3 photos show the construction

The town has a streamlet flowing through the centre, this statue is the end of it. It wasn't until I was writing about the streamlet that I realised I didn't take a photos of any of it. Martin and I walked over it a couple of times.

Beilngries

Staying here for a week, mainly to catch up on work. The town has 3 supermarkets, no washing machine at the marina or in town, looks like we will be doing some hand-washing at some stage. Public transport close to the marina.

The showers are OK, there are two each and the toilets are shared with the Italian restaurant. Drinking water and electricity included in the price.

There is a Cuckoo bird living near by, if you ever stop here hope you like the sound of a Cuckoo.

Riedenburg

Walk bridge at Essing on the way to our next stop

View from the kitchen, who can complain, even doing the dishes.
Club House, one roomy shower for both men and women, entry on the right side around the corner.

Guest spaces are at the back near the boat ramp. Have to park bow first, the video will show you why.
This is a shot of the boat ramp, near the car in the background, that is where the electricity for guest is, we need an extension lead, which a local lent us for the night and you will need the conversion plug again.

Morning walk around the village close to the marina, no supermarket though.

Kelheim including Schleuse Kelheim

We are now on the Main-Donau-Kanal and our first lock has the galvanized sides, so a quick fix of the fenders, change them from vertical to horizontal so they are larger then the gaps. thank goodness for the extra long lines on the fenders. I was thinking of shortening them a couple of days ago.
