Heading to our first lock going down, the Schleuse Hilpoltstein (Main-Donau-Kanal)
Arrive at Nuremberg 1. MYC at 5:15pm
Be warned this next bit is me letting off steam:
The Guest dock was full, 2 lovey people show us another place to tie up. One showed us around, told us the code for the gate and showers and showed us the book to sign but told us we could do it tomorrow and gave us the envelope to fill in and place the money into when we leave.
In the evening, a gentleman knocked on the boat, telling us he is the Harbour master and talking in German very fast, we explained we could only understand English, he stormed off. He came back another 2 times, again telling us he is the Harbour master, on the third go, we finally got him to slow down, he wanted us to sign the book tonight. I found him so abrupt in his approach to visitors to his marina that I wasn't going to stay the week we planned. After a wine we decided we will at least stay for a couple of days, having a washing machine and dryer and supermarket close by helped the decision. Everybody else at the marine is very nice.
The following night we were invited to pizza with Armin and Doreen and Elke and Eric from the marina.
We don't have any photos but on the Friday we took a trip up the canal with Armin and Doreen and dog Nikki to go to a camping store that had a dock and was a very short walk from the canal. Sounds great doesn't it. Unfortunately we hadn't let the harbour master know that we were going and we hadn't already paid (this is normal practice) and then apparently there was a great deal of panic thinking that we had done a runner. Anyway, yes we did go back, yes we did stay a few more days and yes we did pay. :-)

20th June 2022 time to see the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg everyone is telling us about.
The Imperial Castle was first mentioned in a document as a royal property in 1050, use by the Holy Roman Empire, stopping place for rulers on their journeys through the realm, and court assemblies and Imperial Diets were held here. It helps when you can walk around with an audio in English

The moat now is a garden everyone can enjoy. |
I really enjoyed learning about the Castles and Germany's history and have lunch in the Café Restaurant on the grounds
