Obernzell

We have made it to Germany, well one side of the Danube River is Germany the other is Austria.

Obernzell on the way to the marina, German side of the river.

Schloss Obernzell from the water

First night in Germany, this Marine has it's Guest Berths right at the entrance of the Danube River and the platform the skiers take off from, while the skiers were coming and going, it would get a bit rolly on the boat but quieten when they stopped for the day.

Walk around Obernzell.

The following 3 photos are of the Schloss Obernzell from land, hopefully showing the size of the moat, no water now so shows how deep it was. Passau bishop began building the moated castle in 1423, completed in 1426 by his successor

Sankt Agatha - arrived 13th May 2022 left 20th May 2022

In the last post I mentioned a list, well we know this place had a lot on the list but no supermarket and it's 10 kms from the nearest town so we stocked up on food to last a week.

Once we arrived at the marina and was shown to our berth we found out the WiFi doesn't reach the dock. We talked to some of the locals on the same arm to find out the WiFi only reaches the docks close to the office and they are only for the small sport boats.

We are committed to stay for the week so we will make the most of it, as it does have a Washing machine and drier.

In our berth, time to relax

First night at the marina, we are having dinner at the pub, Pizza and Wine.

Goodnight
15th May we are going to walk up the hill to the look out to the U turn in the Danube River

Heading off track to have a drink

Started at the bottom at 8:23 reached the lookout at 9:03, 40 minutes all up hill about a 20% incline.

In this photo you can see the Marina on the left, you won't be able to see our boat, but you can see the arm we are on, it's the last one.

On the 16th May, our neighbours offered to take us to the town to a supermarket, then they showed us Haibach ob der Donau at favourite place of theirs.

The following photos are of various days of the Marine and surrounding area

Turns out this area use to hold a castle
with an internal area of 0.8 hectares, the camp is referred to as a small fort and was allowed to have been laid out for a crew of 100 to 150 men. A 1.65 m thick wall with a horizon battlement only surrounds the rectangular complex. The west of the finds showed that the castle was built around the 5th century. Below is part of the Castle foundation they know about.

Last night we went to the restaurant at the hotel near the Marina, while there a Cruise ship came along, below is the video of them following the u turn in the river.

Goodbye Sankt Agatha

Motor Yacht Club Kachlet

This Marina did have much better showers then some of the others we have stayed at, the supermarket is under 1 km walk, over a bridge to Aschach, it did have WiFi so I did get a little work done, so we stayed 2 nights. We now have a list we would like the places to have where we stay:

  • Berth Size
  • WiFi
  • Shower
  • Electricity
  • Water
  • Supermarket
  • Laundry; and
  • Cost.
  • So far, no one has had everything on the Danube River, when we find such a place we will stay for longer then a week.

Now this we have seen around the bike tracks, it's a bike repair station. The green stand has tools, a pump and a place to raise your bike while working on it. The orange box contains different size bike tubes you can purchase.

Linz

We had high hopes for this marina, but when we got there we found out they don't have WiFi, it is 1.6kms walk to the supermarket and the shower (yes one shower) wasn't one of the best, it's in the top 5 of the worst. There was a bus into Linz town center only 500mtrs away, which we took on our second day, to pickup some parcels Martin had ordered from Amazon, hired some bikes to ride to the other side of Linz to the Amazon parcel lockers, twice. Had lunch in town and saw the town before hopping on the bus back.

The following morning we walked the 1.6km which took about 25mins, shopped and walked back. Then left town.

11th May heading out of Linz, a new bridge been built.

Au an der Donau

Finally found a marina with WiFi, the supermarket is 3 kms away but the marina has 2 bikes we can use. There is a camping ground close so hopefully we can use their laundromat. We will stay here for 6 days and catch up on work.
